My Biography

Coach Stephen Onireti has been a dedicated figure in British basketball since 1998, shaping the future of countless young athletes through his passion, discipline, and commitment to development. A product of East London, Stephen’s upbringing instilled in him the values of respect, perseverance, and community service—principles that continue to guide his coaching philosophy.

As a former player for London Towers, Youngbloods, and Brixton Top Cats, Coach Onireti transitioned into coaching with a wealth of playing experience. He began his coaching journey at Youngblood Basketball Club, where he served from 1998 to 2025. He also had a transformative impact at St Bonaventure’s School, leading the basketball program from 2005 to 2023 and securing 12 national titles and 6 Jr. NBA championships during his tenure.

Since 2023, Stephen has brought his vision and leadership to Riverside, continuing to develop talent at the grassroots level. His excellence was further recognised when he was appointed Head Coach of the London Aspire Under-15 Boys from 2022 to 2024, where he led the team to victory in the 2023 national Aspire Tournament in Manchester and a runner-up finish in 2024.

An alumnus of St Bonaventure’s School, Redbridge College, and the University of North London, Coach Onireti is celebrated for his sharp eye for talent, attention to detail, and ability to rapidly develop athletes. He has produced multiple national and international players, leaving an enduring legacy across the UK basketball landscape.
